Friday 8th March – Windsurf **** River Orwell at Levington Marina –
Sunny.

34.45 km., 14.55 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Tushingham Bolt 5.5m.
As I haven’t been out for 14 days, been suffering with a chesty cold I
was keen to get out today especially as sunshine and a good breeze from the
east was forecast but a tad on the chilly side, only around 7 degrees which
makes it too cold for open sea sailing for me so it was off to Levinngton
again. I arrived at the Marina just past 10, around high water and had to
park a couple of hundred metres away from the launch beach as there are new
pontoons and ahuge chain in the way and walk which was not a problem. The
foil board was quickly set-up and with the wind in the east, cross shore
from the left it was hard to judge its strength so took a chance with my
5.5, it was a fraction big at times not helped by the fact the river was a
little lumpy today but I had a good session in the sunshine, not getting
cold at all even when I took a dip when playing in the wake of a motorboat!
I had some good mile runs fully flying down to nearly Felixstowe docks
before the wind went patchy and again got some ok gybes, just nice to be
back on the water even if nnot 100% fit! I did 7 long runs and was getting
tired so decided to call it a day especially as it could be the same again
tomorrow:) Pack up shower and head for home, stopping at Walton Church to
take some pics of the magnolia and a trip to check out The Dip with some
cool rolling waves but no windsurfers just a couple of kiters packing up!
Then home just after 1 to learn that we are having the lovely Maeva again
as her mum is sadly under the weather. We had a nice walk through the town
and done briefly to the beach to see the waves but the good onshore breeze
was a tad nippy! Then home for a welcome cuppa and chocolate finger, we
know how to live!
